Located in the city of Columbia, South Carolina, Fort Jackson is a military installment where there are many things for the family to do while stationed here. Today I’m going to tell you a few things you can do when you find yourself in Fort Jackson South Carolina.
When you have your PCS Binder ready to go, get excited for South Carolina! I’m featuring things to do in this area so that you can have some fun, enjoy the sights and relax.
Here are The Best Things To Do When You’re Stationed In South Carolina
South Carolina State House
This state house is a beautiful architectural design that you can enjoy taking photos of. The building still has marks from the Civil War on it, if you look closely and offers tours for you to see the inside of this capitol building.
Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Garden
Enjoy over 350 species represented by over 2,000 animals in this zoo. You’ll enjoy animals from all over the world at this location. The garden offers you a peek into historical times where you can still witness structural remains from the 1880’s during Carolina’s textile industry and the Civil War.
Columbia Museum of Art
Have fun at this museum of art that features the revitalization of downtown Columbia. There are many exhibits to enjoy as well as block parties hosted by this museum. Every few months there are new exhibits, making this a unique thing to do on a frequent basis in Fort Jackson South Carolina.
World’s Largest Fire Hydrant
While this won’t take up much time to do while in Fort Jackson South Carolina, but the sight of this largest fire hydrant is an interesting structure to check out. This is a cool thing to see while driving downtown for dinner or an evening out with friends.
War Dog Memorial
This memorial was put into place in 2015 to showcase a German Shepard and his handler during a Vietnam conflict. Surrounded by a beautiful park where you and the family can roam freely to enjoy a relaxing day while getting a little history lesson in.
MWR – Fort Jackson
Fort Jackson’s MWR offers outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing, intramural sports, and so much more. There are lots of events at Solomon Center.
Palmetto Falls Water Park
Speaking of MWR, when the weather is nice out, you can visit the water park. There’s a large family pool, water slides, a kiddie area, and a lazy river.
There is much history and fun to enjoy in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. If you find yourself stationed here, please try to check out some of my recommended places to visit.
